Swiftwater Class PicSome members of the Fayette County Technical Rescue Team recently completed a certified Swiftwater Rescue 2 Class in Chattanooga. The technician level class, is designed to prepare participants for offensive rescue situations involving floods and swift-moving water. Students gain classroom and hands-on experience in pre-planning and organization, personal safety equipment, swiftwater dynamics and hydrology, medical considerations in water rescues, self-rescue techniques, shore-based rescues, in-water contact rescues and the role of watercraft in swiftwater rescue.

The FCTRT is a Regional Rescue Squad that provides volunteer services not only in Fayette County but all over West Tennessee, North Mississippi, and East Arkansas.  It is the only private and sanctioned volunteer Rescue Squad in the mid-south that is solely dedicated to technical rescue and is the only Active Unit Member of the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads in Fayette County.

The Fayette County Technical Rescue Team is not a government entity and therefore does not receive any federal, state, county, or municipal government funding so that it can be available to respond anytime to virtually anywhere it may be called without any cost to the taxpayers. For the safety and security of the Team, other emergency response agencies that the Team works with, and the public at large – all of the Team members are covered by workers compensation insurance and the Team is also covered by general liability insurance through VFIS. The volunteer Team is solely funded through the generosity of mid-south agencies and foundations; businesses and corporations; current and former elected officials; notable and community leaders; as well as residents from Fayette County and all across the mid-south. More importantly, all contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law since the Team is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
