FCTRT Completes Sonar Training

The Fayette County Technical Rescue Team in conjunction with Search Dogs South recently completed sonar training from TeamWatters, Inc. that was founded by Dennis and Tammy Watters.  TeamWatters, located in Illinois, is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that specializes in assisting law enforcement and rescue teams in the recovery of remains, vehicles and other items.  In addition, TeamWatters is one of the premiere training authorities in the region for the proper use of side image sonar and has worked with numerous agencies in the southeastern United States including the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Mississippi Wildlife Department.

The Team was provided extensive classroom instruction and also provided practical application of the proper use of side image sonar.  In addition, while completing the practical application portion of the training at Herb Parsons Lake, the Team saw firsthand the added benefits of sonar use versus the more traditional methods of searching, such as dragging methods.  The FCTRT wishes to give a special thanks to the Collierville Police Department for the use of their new training facility during the classroom portion of this course as well as their officers who assisted and attended the training.

The Fayette County Technical Rescue Team is a private, non-profit, and sanctioned rescue squad that provides specialized emergency response to fire departments and agencies requesting additional assistance without charge and is comprised of 31 volunteers from various emergency response agencies and departments.  For more information about the FCTRT, please visit their website at www.technicalrescueteam.com
