Recruitment & Qualifications
The FCTRT is open to ANYONE who wishes to join and has an interest in technical rescue as well as helping our community in a volunteer capacity. We currently have two types of memberships: AUXILIARY MEMBERS and REGULAR MEMBERS.
AUXILIARY MEMBERS are typically non-emergency trained personnel who assist in various capacities with the operations of the Team and support the Regular members in emergency events and training. As such, Auxiliary members do not have to meet all of the stringent requirements of regular members.
REGULAR MEMBERS are typically emergency trained personnel who actively participate with the operations of the Team and are involved in all aspects of emergency events and training. As such, Regular members must meet the required entry level qualifications:
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America
- Applicant must be at least (18) years of age.
- Applicant must have an interest in technical rescue.
- Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license in the member’s state of residency.
- Applicant must have submitted the required membership application, release, and other required initial documentation.
- Applicant must provide documentation of previous training and certifications.
- Applicant must be able to pass a DOT physical, criminal background check, drug screening, and have an acceptable driving record.
- Applicant must be physically and mentally able to complete the strenuous physical and emotional demands of incident response and operations.
- Applicant must successfully complete any required physical agility testing as recommended by NFPA and/or required by the Team.
- Applicant must successfully complete all of the required NIMS classes and certifications (ie. ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 for regular members and ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 for senior command staff members).
- Applicant must successfully complete all of the required EVOC and other driver training certifications including operation of watercraft and ATV vehicles.
- Applicant must be approved by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors.
- Applicant may be required to obtain other entry level qualifications
- If Applicant entered service after July 1, 2009, they must have completed the Tennessee required Intro Course.

For all emergencies please call 911 as all requests for a FCTRT response must be from the on scene incident commander of the authority having jurisdiction.
Technical rescue and emergency response are inherently dangerous activities requiring proper training and the appropriate equipment as well as the use of extreme caution at all times. Do not attempt to duplicate the activities performed by the FCTRT and/or depicted herein. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.
